Political Activists? No…they just want to meet a “famous” person.

Mitt Romney came to Mesa last night.  Our kids were so excited to “meet him”.

We got pretty close, but there was no hand shake or greeting.

He gave a typical stump speech that was positive and humorous at times.  The kids loved “woo hoo”ing…except Brooke who was tired and crabby, and Luke, who covered his ears every time the lady behind us began screaming and clapping.  Me?  Well, I just sat on that soft green grass, surrounded by legs and feet, and tried to relax with 2 crabby kids climbing all over me.  Cole was confused a few times when people started booing, and I had to explain that that was in reference to the new budget revealed by the President today, and the references to the religious freedom and persecution problems currently going on.

When the speech ended, the boys raced up to the stage as quickly as they could.  Shawn kept Luke with him and Brooke wouldn’t leave my side.  I tried to keep up with the boys, but they were quickly swallowed by the crowd.  We got amazingly close to Mitt.  He was shaking hands and talking to people, but the crush around him was intense.  The bodyguards were pretty cool to watch, too.  I wouldn’t want that job.

I saw lots of interesting people.  There were some Ron Paul supporters going through the crowd trying to hand out fliers.  Those guys are weird.  Ron Paul is great domestically, but internationally?  He is a disaster.  In fact, his ideals are identical to Noam Chomsky—and that’s scary.  I saw an older woman just bawling her eyes out.  Come on lady, this isn’t Elvis or the Beatles….I saw lots of little kids uncomfortable being in that tight of a group of people.  I saw lots of pregnant women, but I think I see them all the time simply because I’m focused on that kind of thing right now.  I mainly saw lots of people who were picking up trash, saying Hi to friends and neighbors, and people talking positively about the future of our country.
The boys finally found me and told me they were 2 people away from Mitt Romney and they were almost able to touch a famous person!  Big time for an 8 and 10 year old.

My really good friend and boss David Parker is head of his fundraising campaign. I was hoping I could get an "in" when he came.
