Thankful

DSCN1985
This season, for some wacky reason, the craft bug bit me.    I don’t really enjoy making things with my hands—mainly because nothing has ever turned out.  I follow directions, but it all sort of gets lost in translation, you know?
This year, I happened to be reading a blog that I love, which is totally weird since it’s a total DIY craft blog.  On the day we decided to stay in Arizona for Thanksgiving, I just so happened to read this guest post and for some reason the thought:  “I can do that!” popped into my head.
Plus, this house has this wonderful mantle that I have never had in any of our house, and so I felt like I needed to make use of it.  Basically, I just left up Halloween stuff, and then got letters and modge podged glitter on to them.  Glitter---the beginners craft material of choice.  I wish I had done about 90% less glitter and allowed the letters to look more rustic.  Beginners mistake.
I couldn’t find all the fancy schmancy accessories from the blog post, but I still like how it turned out….all except the burlap table cloth.  I went to JoAnne’s and had the lady cut out pieces to match the size of place mats.  While she was cutting, Luke took off running and I had to chase him down.  When I came back, my burlap was nicely folded and had a receipt on top.  I bought it, left it in the bag for 2 weeks and when I opened it, I found one large piece of burlap.  I don’t have the time or energy to cut them to size, so there it is, a too small table cloth of burlap.

We will not be having fancy goblets—I lost them in the move.  We wont have fancy china—I’m not getting out my Blue Willow collection.  I might just use paper plates and plastic cups and tell myself how smart I am to be cutting down on dinner dishes.
Other than having some bling on our table for our small Thanksgiving meal, here are some other things I am thankful for this year:
-Shawn’s job
-Shawn
-The easiest pregnancy I could have ever dreamed of having
-A comfortable home
-Healthy family
-Kids who forgive me when I am a bad Mom
-Lovely weather
-Good Books
-TV or movies that make me laugh out loud
-that I get to play with Sugar’s long, long hair every morning
-Parents who are always willing to boost me up and take care of me
-Jesus Christ
-hugs and kisses from my kids
-the smell of rain
-uninterrupted sleep
-the innocent beauty of children sleeping
-opportunities to grow in many, many ways
-Friends, far and near
Even if my craft hadn’t turned out, I have so much to be thankful for.
Life is good.
